Caltrans awards bridge rehabilitation in Oakland, CA

July 2009 - California Engineering Contractors has been awarded a $6.5 Million contract to rehabilitate the Fruitvale Avenue Overcrossing on Interstate 880.

Rehabilitation work includes replacing the transverse and longitudinal joints and existing edge of roadway barriers, constructing a new deck drainage system, constructing new structure approach slabs, placing new carbon deck reinforcement using a near surface mount design, and repairing unsound concrete on the existing deck and placing complete polyester concrete overlay.

Due to heavy traffic volumes on this critical commute corridor, essentially all work is done at night with the full bridge open to traffic from early morning commute times through the evening rush hours. This project, which was originally scheduled to take more than a year, will be completed in less than 90 working days.
