BART awards Aerial Structures Retrofit

On September 16th, when BART opened bids for it's project - Retrofit of Aerial Structures in Oakland, California Engineering Contractors was the low bidder with a price of $33 million. The primary features of this 2 year project include the addition of micropiles and CIDH piles to the existing BART foundations, structural concrete at the footings and piers, column strengthening, modifications to the electrical system, relocation of utilities,  and landscaping improvements.

This project will upgrade BART's original facilities to meet the current seismic safety standards (recent expansions already meet the current requirements) and will require demanding work, meeting strict safety and quality standards, in congested, urban work locations. The entire project will be performed without inturruption to BART revenue service.
